California native with green-blue foliage and crowded flowering spikes. Flowers are cobalt green in bud, becoming deep sky blue bell shaped flowers, tinged with just a bit of violet. Blooms June - August. Keep this plant very dry! Once it is established it does not require much summer water. Soil should drain well. Plant in full sun. Plant has a somewhat lax habit, give it about 2 ft in space for branches to lay along the ground. Penstemon is evergreen. Prune back after bloom, and divide every 3 years.
