All Spring vegetables are grown in 3.5" pots here at the nursery, seeded and cared for by our staff. As the season progresses, the actual varieties available for sale will change. This is a list of the varieties we expect to seed for the season. If you have any questions you can contact us. We will not ship any of the vegetables.

TOMATO – RED AND PINK 

Abe Lincoln: Indeterminate. 82 days. HEIRLOOM. Great old fashioned flavored tomato with higher acid. They are great for slicing for sandwiches. Yummy for juice and processing.

Ace-high improved: VFFNA. Determinate 71 days. 10 oz tomatoes with wonderful flavor. Well adapted to growing in western states. An old standard, especially for canning.

Arkansas Traveler: Indeterminate. 90 days. HEIRLOOM variety from stock seed discovered in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and Missouri. Fruits are rough, medium sized, about 6 oz, with an excellent, creamy mild flavor. Highly adaptable.

Ball’s Beefsteak: VFFT. Indeterminate. 76 days. This is a great choice for gardeners who want to grow luscious big tomatoes but need them to mature early and stand up to the challenges of disease problems. These 8-12 oz globe shaped fruit grow on highly disease-resistant plants, having no cracking, and offer sensational, old fashioned flavor. Wonderful as a sandwich tomato. BEEFSTEAK.

Beefmaster VFN Hybrid: Indeterminate. 80 days. One of America’s favorites for the solid, meaty, flavorful red fruit that weigh up to 2 lbs. Vigorous vines and outstanding fruit taste and quality. BEEFSTEAK.

Believe It Or Not: Indeterminate. 85 days. HEIRLOOM. Large yields of bright red fruit that can reach up to two pounds. Very juicy tomato also great for sandwiches. NEW FOR 2022

Bella Rosa:  VFFT.  Determinate.  75 days.  High yields of large bright red tomatoes.  Firm, round, and very flavorful!  A good balance of sugar and acid.  Very heat tolerant and crack resistant.

Better Boy VFN Hybrid:  Indeterminate.  75 days.  Rugged vines produce large crops of bright red, 12-16 oz smooth, flavorful fruit.  Similar to Big Boy, but with additional disease resistance.  Firm and perfect for slicing.  One of the best tasting garden tomatoes available anywhere!

Big Brandy: Semi-determinate.  75 days.  A cross between Brandywine and Big Dwarf.  12–15 oz, a fat, husky tomato with distinctive, deeply pleated fruit that is juicy and sweet but with a balanced touch of acid.  NEW FOR 2020

Brandywine Sudduths Strain: Indeterminate. 80 days. 1 ½ lb. HEIRLOOM. A legendary variety with exceptionally rich and succulent flavor. Fruit is meaty and grow on tall potato-leaved vines. BEEFSTEAK.

Bush All Star:  Determinate.  65 days.  A perfectly round 7 oz red BEEFSTEAK.  Super strong plants with thick leaves.  The perfect tomato for containers.  Super vigorous.

Carmello: Indeterminate. 75 days. The French Carmello is among the most productive tomatoes ever bred. It is popular in European markets because of it’s exceptionally fine flavor. Bears large crops of heavy, juicy tomatoes with flavor that just doesn’t stop. Another favorite because it consistently produces great tasting fruit, even in cooler weather. Good for slicing in salads, sautéed, or as an integral part of any dish.

Caspian Pink: Indeterminate. 80 days. Russian HEIRLOOM. Large pink BEEFSTEAK, rich flavor, often compared favorably to Brandywine. Fruits average 10-12 oz. with a plentiful set and fairly early set for this large of a tomato.

Celebrity: VFFNTA Determinate 70 days. 8 oz. Exceptionally flavorful, firm fruit on strong vines with good cover and outstanding disease resistance. Highly productive and widely adaptable.

Chef's Choice Red: Indeterminate. 85 days. A real winner with an 8 oz beefsteak style tomato. The globe shaped fruit have firm flesh with the perfect balance of acid to sugar, creating a flavor similar to heirloom varieties. Has prolific yields and is disease resistant. NEW FOR 2022

Costoluto Genovese: Indeterminate. 85 days. HEIRLOOM. Uniquely lobed, deep red fruits have ridges that make slices look like flowers. Super delicious fresh or prepared, with a deep rich flavor. 18 oz fruit that are also good for sauces.

Delicious: Indeterminate. 77 days. Huge red fruit, holds the world’s record for largest tomato ever grown. Excellent flavor, just what a tomato should taste like! Very few seeds, fruit up to 2 lb..

Early Girl: VFF. Indeterminate. 52 days. 6 oz. A favorite early variety. Dependable large harvests of flavorful tomatoes with excellent disease resistance.

First Prize VFFNT:  Indeterminate. 75 days.  Plants bear over a very long season.  This is the kind of tomato home gardeners would love to grow for a county fair.  Vigorous vines produce huge crops of round, crack resistant 10-12 oz fruits.

Genuwine: Indeterminate. 70 days. A hybrid Brandywine and Costoluto Genovese. Great tasting fruit around 10-12 oz. High yielding plants and early maturing fruit. 

 

Goliath:   Indeterminate.  85 days.  Large growing plant growing giant fruit!  Dark pink, solid tomatoes are ribbed, have few seeds, and are very sweet yet have a good acid complement, giving an old fashioned tomato flavor.  HEIRLOOM.

Italian Heirloom: Indeterminate. 75 days. Short-season gardeners, this one’s for you! With the looks and taste of a quintessential cherished heirloom tomato, these deeply pleated, maroon fruit have outstanding flavor and great production to boot! Indeterminate plants set the 3 ½ inch, squat, beefy slicers continuously from relatively early in the season. New for 2024! 

Kosovo:  Indeterminate.  75 days.  HEIRLOOM.  This wonderful oxheart variety came from a former U.N. worker in Kosovo, who passed it down to Carolyn Male.  Huge, deep pink heart-shaped fruit has a sweet rich flavor and is very meaty while still being juicy.  Production is excellent and the tomatoes are simply beautiful, but it is the delectable and intense tomato flavor that really makes this one special.  Tomatoes can grow up to 1 lb.

Martha Washington: Indeterminate. 75 days. HEIRLOOM. A great pink tomato, with the flavor of a sweet heirloom but widely adaptable to heat, cool, and even humidity. Globe shaped 8-16 oz fruit.

Momotaro: Indeterminate.70 days. Momotaro is one of the most popular tomato varieties in Japanese markets and for good reason. Its flavor is an intricate and harmonious combination of sweet and tangy that has won Momotaro several tomato tasting contests. The radiant pink slicers weigh 6–7 ounces. Momotaro is durable, heat tolerant, and crack resistant with good storability. New for 2024! 

Mrs Maxwell’s Big Italian:  Indeterminate. 80 days. This HEIRLOOM variety was passed down from Mrs. Maxwell, who lived in Missouri and whose friend from Italy gave her the original seed. Tomatoes are 1 to 2 lb. dark-pink BEEFSTEAKS with luscious flavor and juicy, meaty texture, just right for eating fresh, canning, or even making sauce. Vigorous, potato-leaved plants are prolific and bear earlier than some other beefsteak types. 

Neves Azorean Red:  Indeterminate.  75 days.  This terrific red tomato was developed by Anthony Neves who kept selecting for larger size, resulting in a huge, beautiful beefsteak with 1 to 3 lb deep red fruit bursting bursting with magnificent, rich flavor.  This makes the ultimate tomato sandwich or special tomato salad.  

Sioux: Indeterminate. 70 days. 6 oz. HEIRLOOM, sweet yet tangy, and full of rich complex flavors. Very long productive season. Although this appears to be an average size unassuming red tomato, you just have to grow it to believe it.

Stupice: Indeterminate 52 days. 2 oz. Very early cold tolerant tomato that bears abundantly. HEIRLOOM, from Czechoslovakia, a garden favorite for its earliness and productivity.

Thessaloniki: Indeterminate. 75 days. 8 oz. Greek HEIRLOOM, beautiful round fruit, juicy with excellent, old fashioned acid tomato flavor. Good yields and crack resistant.

TOMATO – PURPLE AND BLACK

Black: Indeterminate. 75 days. HEIRLOOM.   Compact plants bear plenty of wonderfully rich, dark mahogany brown tomatoes that average about 4 oz. Black tomatoes have a delicious blend of sugar and acid and a distinctive, complex flavor that is to be savored. Some folks say this variety is one of the best tasting black tomatoes and prefer it also for its nice, medium size.

Black Krim: Indeterminate. 75 days. 12oz. HEIRLOOM. Dark brown-red tomatoes are large and richly flavored, with a hint of saltiness. Fruit sets well, even in heat. Heavy producer.

Black Prince: Indeterminate. 70 days. 1 lb. HEIRLOOM. Deep garnet round fruits really load up on these plants that stay fairly small. Tomatoes are medium sized and full of juice and good rich flavor. From Siberia.

Carbon: Indeterminate. 80 days. Among the darkest of the black tomatoes. Rich and sweet, tastes like summer. 8-12 oz. Purplish brown outside, deep brick red interior. We got many reports back from happy growers of this tomato in 2005 that claimed this was the best tomato they had ever grown! HEIRLOOM.

Chef's Choice Black: Indeterminate. 85 days. Disease resistant plants produce high yields of purple black beefsteak tomatoes. Fruit is 6-8 oz with a rich flavor.  NEW FOR 2023

Cherokee Carbon:  Indeterminate.  75 days.  Wow!  An amazing hybrid between Cherokee Purple and Carbon, both of which are famous for their unique and delicious flavors.    Cherokee Carbon has the productivity of Cherokee Purple and the rich, earthy flavor of Carbon.  10-12 oz unblemished fruits.  NEW FOR 2020!

Cherokee Purple: Indeterminate. 80 days. 12 oz. Very productive plants with rose/purple fruit with brick red interior. Thin skin, absolutely delicious with a pleasantly sweet and rich flavor. Tennessee HEIRLOOM. One of our most popular tomatoes.

Indigo Blue Beauty:  Indeterminate.  80 days.  Beautiful 6 – 8 oz beefsteak tomatoes begin as a stunning true blue where sunlight strikes the skin.  The undersides will ripen from green to red when fruit are ready to harvest.  Large yields of meaty tomatoes are flavorful and resistant to cracking.

Japanese Black Trifele: Indeterminate. 85 days. Heavy producer of pear shaped fruits that are free of blemishes and cracks and range in color from intense black to dark gray blushed with magenta. Plants produce prolific yields of picture perfect, 3 oz fruits that look stunning when sliced on a plate. As delicious as it is unique. Excellent for canning, as it holds the flavor and color well.

TOMATO – YELLOW AND ORANGE 

Amana Orange: Indeterminate. 75-90 days. HEIRLOOM. A 12-16 oz tomato with flavorful, meaty flesh. Originally from the Amana colonies in Iowa. This is an orange equivalent version of the heirloom Brandywine. These beautiful, low acid additions to the tomato patch will cover a full piece of bread on your open faced tomato sandwich.

Dixie Golden Giant: Indeterminate. 85 days. l to 2bs. Fabulous sweet fruity taste in a huge, clear lemon yellow BEEFSTEAK. HEIRLOOM. Large plants with good yields.

Dr Wyche’s Yellow: Indeterminate. 80 days. A light yellow BEEFSTEAK that matures to a golden orange. Slightly flattened fruits, weighing up to 1 lb, have flesh that is meaty and blemish free. Scored well in our 2010 tomato tasting. NEW FOR 2011!

Jubilee: Indeterminate. 80 days. 8-12 oz. Plentiful harvests of bright gold-orange, large fruit, with delicious flavor. Makes beautiful mixed salads.

Kellogg's Breakfast: Indeterminate. 85 days. HEIRLOOM. Orange colored beefsteak tomato that grows to at least 1 pound.  NEW FOR 2023

Lemon Boy VFN Hybrid: Indeterminate. 72 days. The first lemon yellow colored tomato, very productive and vigorous plant, producing large harvest of attractive fruit that weighs 8 oz. Lower acid, sweet flavor. Easy to grow.

Persimmon:  Indeterminate.  80 days.  HEIRLOOM grown by Thomas Jefferson in 1781!  Large  plant produces large amounts of beautiful orange (persimmon colored) 14-18 oz., meaty, tomatoes with few seeds and sweet fruity flavors and juicy flesh. One of the better flavors of all the orange tomatoes. Great for eating fresh, slicing for salads and sandwiches or making a delicious soup. A very popular variety for growing for the marketplace. 

Tangerine: Indeterminate. 80 days. 1-2 lb. HEIRLOOM. Deep yellow orange beefsteak fruit shaped like a tangerine. Meaty and flavorful, with both sweet and rich flavor.

Valencia:  Indeterminate.  80 days.  HEIRLOOM.  Round smooth fruits average 8-10 oz; very meaty with few seeds.  Sunny orange color, full tomato flavor.

TOMATO – STRIPED / BI-COLOR

Ananas Noir: Indeterminate. 80 days. The name of this tomato is French for black pineapple – it arose out of a planting of Pineapple tomatoes in a Belgian garden. Fruit is 1 to 1 1/2 lbs, with an exterior color of dark purple and green with pink-red splotches and a touch of yellow, while the inside is bright green streaked with pink. The flavor is sweet yet rich and delicious. Beautiful sliced on a plate.

Beauty King: Determinate. Large yellow beefsteak with pronounced deep red stripes (not blotches) that bleed into very meaty sweet yellow tomato flesh. Over one pound fruit is common size for this aggressive growing determinate plant that can grow over 12 feet tall. Bred locally by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms.

Green Zebra: Indeterminate. 75 days. Unique and delicious salad tomato. 3 oz fruits are amber-green with darker green stripes. The light green flesh is sweet yet zingy. HEIRLOOM.

Jaunet Flammee: Indeterminate. 60 days. 3 oz HEIRLOOM. Orange skin and beautiful red mottled flesh. Fruit is high in sugar and acid, borne in clusters of 8-12 fruit. Good disease resistance.

Marvel Stripe: Indeterminate. 85 days. HEIRLOOM. Big and beautiful, yellow orange fruit streaked with ruby red, very sweet. 1 to 2 lbs, high yields.

Oaxacan Jewel: indeterminate. 85 days. This beautiful beefsteak tomato is yellow with red streaks and a rich sweet flavor. Fruit are 1 to 2 pounds.

Pineapple:  Indeterminate.  85 days.  Enormous, uniquely patterned, yellow red striped fruits will be the center of attraction.  BEEFSTEAK fruits easily grow to 5 inches and larger, and are orange yellow with red streaks.  Fruits have meaty flesh, mild flavor, with no green shoulders.  Heavy foliaged plants produce good yields.

Pink Berkeley Tie Dye: Indeterminate. This is one amazing tomato, green-yellow with orange-red stripes. Green-yellow flesh with red blush and bright green seed gel. Fruit is 8 oz to one lb. Heavy hitter in flavor also, complex tomato flavor with some tartness. Chefs love them. Bred locally by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms.

Striped German:  Indeterminate.  75 days.  Heirloom.  Beautiful 1-2 lb fruit, golden yellow with stripes of soft red.  Flesh is very dense, juicy and flavorful, very complex.  Produces until frost.

Virginia Sweets:  Indeterminate.  80 days.  This HEIRLOOM variety is simply one of the best tasting, best producing gold-red bicolors we have ever grown.  On top of that, the tomatoes are stunningly beautiful and enormous, weighing at least 1 lb each.  Golden yellow beefsteaks are colored with red stripes that turn into a ruby blush on top of the golden fruit.  Flavor is sweet and rich, and harvests are abundant.

TOMATO – PASTE AND SALADETTE

Amish Paste: Indeterminate. 85 days. Amish HEIRLOOM variety produces paste type fruit with an oblong oxheart shape. 8 oz tomatoes are solid with an outstandingly good, sweet flavor.

Juliet: 1999 All-America Selections winner. Indeterminate. 60 days. Elongated cherry tomatoes grow in grape-like clusters. Very sweet flavor, vigorous grower. Great for snacking, sauces and drying. Once you try this one, it will be a mainstay of your tomato garden.

Roma: VF. Determinate. 78 days. 3 oz. Popular paste tomato. Compact plants yield large harvest of 3 inch red fruit.

San Marzano Redorta: Indeterminate. 78 days. Huge plum tomato is an HEIRLOOM variety from Tuscany, and named for a mountain in Bergamo. Used for cooking, but flavorful enough to eat fresh. Tomatoes are much larger than a regular San Marzano, with the average size being about 8 oz. This is a different tomato from the more common hybrid San Marzano; it is much larger and sweeter flavored, and much juicier.

TOMATO – CHERRY

A Grappoli Corbarino: Indeterminate. 75 days. The plant produces high yields of large bright red grape-shaped tomatoes in clusters. They are very sweet and flavorful, perfect for eating right off the vine or in salads. Excellent choice for home gardens. HEIRLOOM. New for 2024! 

Black Cherry: Indeterminate. 65 days. New! A truly black cherry tomato, with classic black tomato flavor, rich and sweet. Very abundant, irresistibly delicious.

Blush: Indeterminate. 75 days. A new ‘julienne cherry’ tomato introduced from Seeds of Change. These are 2 inches long, 1-3 oz beauties, ready to pick when a pink blush starts to appear over the yellow background. The flavor is very sweet, with a hint of pineapple. Blush is very productive over an extended period. We think this variety will be as popular as Juliet (see below), and would make a good pairing for planting, being used fresh, for canning, sauces, drying, and preserved in oil. I can’t wait to try this one in salsa!

Chocolate Pear: Indeterminate. 70 days. Gorgeous pear-shaped cherries are light red swirled with various shades of green and brown. Fruits have a rich tomato flavor, a consistent taste-test winner in trials.

Green Grape: Determinate. 70 days. Yellow-green I inch fruits are full of flavor, sweet and juicy. Very prolific compact plants.

Indigo Blue Berries:  Indeterminate.

Indigo Cherry Drops: Indeterminate. 71 days. Striking deep blue and red 1- 2 oz cherry with red flesh and a bright tangy flavor. Large yields of fruit high in anthocyanins. NEW FOR 2023

Isis Candy: Indeterminate. 67 days. Yellow gold tomatoes with red marbling. Sweet taste that is also rich and fruity. Long bearing season, very prolific.

Midnight Snack: Indeterminate.  75 days.  Unique cherry tomatoes ripen to red with a blush of glossy black purple on the skin when exposed to sunlight due to an accumulation of anthocyanin pigment.  Plants are productive all season, yielding 1 1/2 inch fruit with well balanced flavor.  Great for salads, if you don’t eat them all right off the plant!

Pink Bumble Bee: Indeterminate.  70 days.  Strikingly pretty rose-colored fruits with gold striping, about 3/4 inch in size.  Juicy and sweet with rich flavor perfect with basil and mozzarella. Versatile in the kitchen and sure to be a hit in mixed tomato salads! Resists cracking.

Red Pear:  Indeterminate.  70 days.  medium sized plants, yielding plenty of small, red pear shaped fruits with very few seeds.  A very old heirloom.  Perfect for salads, sauces and pickles.  NEW FOR 2020.

Riesentraube: Indeterminate. 77 days. HEIRLOOM. Large clusters of 1 oz red cherry fruit with a distinctive pointed end and a rich, tomato flavor. The name means "giant grape" in German. Sprawling plant that needs support. NEW FOR 2023!

Snow White: Indeterminate. 75 days. Delightful ivory-colored cherry tomatoes ripen to pale yellow and are deliciously sweet without being sugary. This is one you’ll find yourself snacking on in the garden because it tastes so good.

Sugary: Indeterminate. 60 days. 2005 ALL AMERICA SELECTIONS AWARD WINNER. Very sweet, cherry sized tomatoes are oval shaped with a pointed blossom end and a beautiful reddish-pink color. Fruit is produced in clusters on high yielding semi-indeterminate vines, which means that plants stay more compact but continue to produce over a long season.

Sun Sugar FT Hybrid: Indeterminate. 62 days. A hybrid orange cherry tomato with unbelievably good flavor and productivity. Very sweet, fruity tasting tomatoes are borne in long clusters on vigorous plants. Many other cherry tomatoes have a tendency to crack, especially when ripe, but this one has crack resistance bred in while still keeping a thin skin. The taste of these tomatoes is such a delight that they’re often picked and eaten in the garden instead of ever making it indoors.

Sungold: Indeterminate. 57 days. Early, bright orange tomatoes are produces in abundance. Flavor is very sweet and fruity. A local favorite. Always rated high in our tastings.

Super Sweet 100: Indeterminate. 65 days. Vigorous vines produce huge crops of 1 inch fruits with very sweet flavor. Fruits have a high vitamin C content. A long-standing favorite.

Sweet Chelsea: VFNT, Indeterminate. 67 days. Jumbo-sized cherry tomatoes are extra sweet and resist cracking.

Yellow Pear: Indeterminate. 78 days. Plants produce large and continuous harvest of small, yellow pear shaped tomatoes with sweet flavor. Favorite for kids.

TOMATILLOS

De Milpa: 70 days. Plant produces good yields of small to medium size tomatillos. This variety was grown unattended in a corn fields by a family in Mexico. It stores fresh for several weeks. Excellent for making salsa. They are surrouded by a papery husk that turns from green to brown as they ripen and splits open when they are ready to harvest. An heirloom variety from Mexico.

Purple: 75 days. A uniquely colored tomatillo that is enjoyed for the sweet yet tart flavor it gives Mixican dishes. These small fruit form inside papery husks and begin as pale green, then ripen to a rich, deep purple. Vigorous and productive.

California Wonder: 75 days. High yields and extra large fruit have made this probably the most popular open pollinated bell pepper for market and home gardeners alike. Dark green peppers are mostly 4 lobed and blocky, about 4 ½ inches long and 4 inches wide, with crisp thick walls and sweet taste. Fruit eventually ripens to bright red. Tall plants are tobacco mosaic virus resistant and produce an abundance of peppers over a very long season.

Candy Cane: 65 days.  These unique sweet beauties really stand out in the garden.  Elongated 3 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch, fruits ripen from green with creamy white stripes to solid red.  Thin walls and crispy texture make it perfect for fresh eating at any stage of ripeness.  Plants have unusual variegated foliage giving them an ornamental look, ideal for patio containers and small space gardening.

Cherry Pick:

Chocolate Beauty: 85 Days.  One-of-a-kind variety! High quality, flavorful, medium-large, very smooth, 3 and 4-lobed fruits mature from green to a very attractive chocolate color. Resists Tobacco Mosaic Virus.  Very sweet, especially for roasting.

Corno di Toro: 68 days. Italian bull’s horn, 8 inches long, ripens to a deep red, delicious fresh or grilled. Prolific tall plant.

Cubanelle: 75 days. Cubanelle is a variety of sweet pepper commonly used in Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican cuisine. Many cooks prefer it to bell types. Sweet Cubanelle peppers can sometimes be slightly hot, but with only a touch of heat. This 6-8” pepper is prized for its sweet, mild flesh, rich flavor, and pretty colors. The thin-walled pepper is especially suited for quick cooking. Best picked when yellow-green for use in roasting, stuffing, as a pizza topping, for frying, a substitute for Anaheim peppers, or in a yellow mole sauce, and is one of the traditional ingredients in sofrito. They can also be left to mature and harvested when bright orange-red. In the garden, in addition to their famed taste and colors, the Cubanelle peppers are also known for their unique, imperfectly curled, wrinkled, and twisted shapes–no two seem to ever be alike.

Cupid:

Fehr Ozon Paprika:  70 days.  5 inches long, on compact plants.  Pepper ripens from yellow to red, with very sweet flesh and just a touch of heat.  Mature peppers can be grilled or used fresh, but are traditionally dried and ground into a sweet paprika powder.

Giant Aconcagua:  70 days.  These pepper with flavor as sweet as apples. Oblong fruit grows up to a huge 12 inches long and is produced in great abundance. Delicious in salads, stuffed, stir-fried or roasted and peeled. Can be enjoyed at the light green stage, but is sweetest when fully ripened to red.

Giant Marconi: 70 days. 2001 AAS Winner. Not technically a Marconi Pepper, but displays so many similar traits it has earned the name! Large, tapered, fruits grow to 8″ by 3″, with a sweet, smoky flavor that’s equally delectable when eaten green or red, fresh or grilled. Widely adaptable, it produces larger than normal crops just about anywhere. Plant withstands severe weather and disease.

Golden Calwonder: 73 days. Golden yellow at full maturity, these peppers are thick walled, meaty, and really sweet and tasty. Square shaped fruits are about 4 inches long and wide, and grow upright on healthy plants. Expect great production and beautiful, very sweet tasting peppers.

Gypsy: 60 days. 1981 ALLAMERICAN SELECTIONS WINNER. Outstanding yield, good looks and flavor combine with earliness to make this pepper a winner. Wedge shaped fruit is 3 to 5 inches long, pale yellow at first, maturing to orange-red; very sweet when ripe. Plants perform well in both hot and cool regions.

Jimmy Nardello:  80 days.  Although technically a frying pepper, this is one of the sweetest non bell peppers you will ever taste.  The bright red, 6-8 inch long peppers are only about 1 inch wide, and taper from the shoulder to tip, with a curving, somewhat wrinkled appearance.  They are great for adding to salads or cooking into stir fries. 

King Arthur:  60 days green, 75 days red.  This very large, 4 lobed blocky bell pepper is hard to beat for its earliness and large size.  Fruit becomes 4 ½ inches long and wide and seems to set well even in heat.  Plants provide good foliage cover and are resistant to bacterial spot and many pepper viruses.  This replaces Fat n’ Sassy, which we have offered for many years.

Mamma Mia Giallo: 85 days.  Bright yellow, tapered fruits grow 7 to 9 inches long and are very uniform with smooth skin and sweet flavor that is excellent fresh, roasted or grilled. The plants are  compact at 20 to 24 inches tall with excellent leaf coverage to protect the peppers from sunburn and strong stems to support the heavy yields of up to 30 fruits per plant.  A standout both in the garden and at the dinner table. Tobacco Mosaic Virus resistant.

Mamma Mia Rossa: F1.  80 days.  Oblong bell peppers are very sweet and crunchy.  Red when ripe.  Virus resistant.  Grows to 2 ft tall, very productive, good leaf coverage to protect from sunburn.  Great for containers.

Orange Sun: 68 days. Rich orange color and fabulous sweet flavor in a big, blocky bell pepper. This is a Dutch variety that yields large harvests of truly gorgeous orange fruit. Plants are resistant to tobacco mosaic virus and have plenty of foliage to protect developing fruit.

Piquillo: 85 days.  The famous Spanish pepper widely used in tapas and for stuffing.  Peppers grow 3 inches by 1 1/2 inches.  Spicy sweet flavor with a bit of heat.  Harvest when red.

Purple Beauty:  70 Days.  Special deep purple color of bell pepper for gourmet chefs. Fruits are blocky, thick-walled and dark purple. Compact plants set heavily, with good cover to protect fruits from sunscald.

Round of Hungary:  58 days.  Specialty pimento cheese pepper.  Ribbed, flattened fruits mature early and have very thick, sweet, delicious flesh.  Distinctive, globe shaped fruits average 2 inches by 4 inches, turn red early, and are great for stuffed peppers, in cooking, and for salads.  

Shishito:  60 days.  This medium early, small, sweet, thin-walled glossy green pepper is popular in Japan. The fruits grow up to 3-4″ long. Plant has a spreading habit and produces prolifically. Good for garden, greenhouse and open field growing.  About 1 in 10 peppers are hot!  They are excellent for grilling or sautéing.  

Spanish Spice:  68 days.  Flavorful and aromatic when grilled or fried, this European import looks like a green chili pepper, but has a pleasing spicy taste, rather than heat. Extra-early fruits average 7 inches in length and are sensational cooked or raw. Very thin walls allow peppers to cook quickly. A heavy yielder.

Sweet Banana:  70 days.  Bright yellow fruits are sweet, crunchy and about 4-6 inches long.  Also great for pickling or for a sweet relish.

Sweet Pickle: 75 days. Very compact plants are crowned by a profusion of upright peppers in colors of red, orange, yellow, and purple, all at the same time. Peppers are about 2 inches long and chunky, making for a spectacularly colorful display. While highly ornamental, this fruit is also very edible and sweet, especially when fully ripened to red.

PEPPERS-HOT

Aleppo:

Anaheim: 75 days. Also known as the “New Mexican Chile”, this moderately pungent fruit is deep green, but turns red at full maturity. Very smooth peppers are 7 ½ inches long and 2 inches wide and borne on tall, productive plants that offer good foliage cover for the fruit. Tobacco mosaic virus resistant. Excellent for canning, freezing or drying.

Basque (Espellette):

Bhut Jolokia: 95 days. Also called Ghost Pepper, alleged to be the hottest in the world, use with caution!! Measured by the Guinness Book of World Records as having over 1 million scoville units. Harvest when 3 inch peppers are orange red. 

Caribbean Red: 110 days. Seed for this habanero variety was found in the Caribbean, and then improved, resulting in a uniform fiercely hot pepper that is way hotter than the regular orange habanero. Dried samples of Caribbean Red measured 445,000 Scoville units (regular habanero is about 260,000). This pepper must be used carefully, but is wonderful for salsas, marinades, and making your own hot sauce. Bright red, wrinkled fruits are about 1 ½ inches deep and 1 inch wide and have flavor with fruity overtones.

Carolina Reaper:  95 days. This infamous pepper has a fruity and sweet/hot aroma, with a pleasant undertone of chocolate/cherry taste. Flavor is certainly not sacrificed for the extreme heat.  Individual fruits vary but can have up to 2,000,000 scoville units.

Cayenne: 70 days. Long, 6 inch fruit on a tall, vigorous plant. Peppers are mildly hot, 50,000-60,000 scoville units.

Chile de Arbol:  80 days.  An old Mexican heirloom, this is a big plant, reaching 4 feet tall.  Peppers look like cayennes, but have a bold, smoky flavor.  Very popular in Mexican cooking and commonly added to soups and sauces.  The smoky, hot flavor is terrific in BBQ sauce.

Chiltepin: 95 days. This is a tiny pea shaped chile that is no more than ¼ inch long and wide. This variety grows wild throughout Mexico and some parts of the Southwestern U.S. They are among the hottest peppers available, measuring about 100,000 Scoville units. The plants can grow to 4 feet and are capable of living for years where the climate allows. These fiery little red peppers are popular for spicing up soups and bean dishes.

Fatalii: 80 days.  Big, beautiful plants, growing to 4 feet.  Peppers are 3 inches long, oddly shriveled and bright yellow when ripe.  Very, very hot, 325,000 scoville units, but with a lovely hint of citrus to pump up the flavor.  Native to the Central African Republic.

Fish:

Fresno: 75 days. Vigorous 2 ft plant, bears 1 x 2 ½ smooth tapered hot peppers, ripening green to red. Excellent for pickling.

Golden Greek Pepperoncini: 85 days. 4 inch long, slightly tapered pepper ripens from green to yellow to red when mature. Usually harvested and pickled when light yellow. Mildly hot and delicious, used for salads and sandwiches.

Habanero: 90 days. A blistering hot pepper 40 times hotter than Jalapeno. Among the most potent peppers we sell. Wrinkled fruit is 1 inch long and 1 ½ inches wide, with a tapered end. Peppers begin as light green then turn to golden orange and are loaded on 36 inch tall plants.

Hungarian Wax: 70 days. Medium hot peppers, especially good for pickling. Canary yellow, then bright red at full maturity, 6 to 8 inches long.

Italian Roaster:  75 days.  A terrific choice for just a little heat, this pepper produces 7 inch long slender peppers that are red when ripe.  Thin walls make it a great choice for grilling.  Try this on a burger or pastrami sandwich!

Jalapeno: 75 days. Fiery, thick walled peppers grow 3 inch long and 1 ½ inches wide, with rounded tips. Dark green at first, then turning red. Good for fresh use or pickling; famous for nachos and other Tex-Mex dishes.

Lemon Drop:  100 days.  Hot, citrus flavored heirloom pepper from Peru.  Long cone shaped fruit, very few seeds.  50,000 Scoville units.  Neon bright yellow.  Great for containers.

Numex Big Jim: 80 days. The largest of the New Mexican varieties, this pepper has pods up to 12 inches long that weigh as much as 4 oz. Their size makes them a favorite for chiles rellenos. Medium hot pungency. As an advantage, plants are able to set fruit under hot, dry conditions.

Numex Twilight: 120 days. An ornamental piquin type chile with green leaves and purple fruit that ripens to yellow, orange, and then red. This variety has fruit in all four color states at the same time.

Padron: 55 days. Originating from Galicia, Spain comes this taste sensation. Also called the “Pimiento de Padrone” pepper. Little sweet chili size peppers often fried whole. Horned shaped about the size of a habanero pepper they are an heirloom pepper of Spain and very relished there. Every 10th or so will be extremely hot making for a fun game of culinary roulette. If left to ripen red they will be quite spicy. To get them just right pick when they are about the size of large olives. Toss the peppers, seeds, stems and all, into a hot skillet with olive oil. The tiny peppers are blistered first on one side, then the other, before being salted and plated for serving. Provides a very spicy and wonderful paprika if ripened and dried.

Pasilla Bajio: 75 days. When fresh, this pepper is called “chilaca”; it is also known as “chile negro”. 8 to 10 inch long cylindrical peppers are thin walled, and dark green ripening to dark brown. They have less than 250 Scoville units and are mainly used dried for their rich, smoky flavoring in sauces. Plants are tobacco mosaic virus resistant.

Poblano/Ancho: 80 days. Mild heart-shaped chili perfect for stuffing in chiles rellenos or dried for ancho chili powder.  Stout dark green fruits are moderately spicy with medium-thick walls. Referred to as Poblano when used fresh and Ancho when dried for seasoning. Plants are well branched. Well adapted variety; good yields in cool conditions.

Rocoto: 80 days.  Originating in the Andes mountains, this variety is also called manzano, meaning apple.  The fruit is apple shaped, growing prolifically  on large, hairy leaved plants that are more cold hardy, and in some areas will be perennial.  It is a medium heat pepper, with a bit of a citrus undertone.  Very pretty in the garden!

Satan's Kiss:

Scotch Bonnet:  90 days.  A super hot, oblong 2 inch bonnet shaped fruit.  Excellent for hot Caribbean dishes.

Serrano: 75 days. Very hot chile called for in many recipes. Candle flame shaped fruit are 2 ¼ inches long, green, then red at full maturity. Borne on attractive 30 to 36 inch erect, branching plants. Suitable for salsas and sauce recipes as well as eating fresh. Vigorous bearer.

Tabasco: Small and very hot pepper famous for the sauce sharing its name. Peppers are also quite ornamental as they ripen, changing colors from white to yellow, orange, and red.

Thai Dragon: Upright clusters of 2 1/2 -3 inch red peppers are very hot, perfect for Asian cuisine.  Plants are compact, growing to 18 inches tall, perfect for container growing.

EGGPLANT

Bambino (One Bite): 45 days. Miniature, tiny 1 inch dark beauties in clusters, for shish ka bob, plant is only 12 inch tall, great for containers. Very productive. 

Black Beauty: 80 days. This variety is nearly 100 years old, and still well loved as the classic big-fruited black eggplant. Glossy fruits become quite large but are well shaped, and perfect for slicing into thick eggplant steaks for grilling or eggplant Parmesan.

Calliope:  65 days. Small white-and-purple variegated fruits. Calliope is a beautiful, oval, Indian eggplant. Suitable for baby (2″ long by 1 1/2″ diameter) or mature (3-4″ long by 2 1/4-2 3/4″ diameter) harvest. High yielding, even in the North. The plants and calyxes are spineless, unlike many varieties of this type. Green calyx.

(White) Cloud 9:  75 days. Pure white teardrop shaped fruit, best harvested at 7 inches or smaller.  Very mild, no bitterness.  A great variety for people who say they don’t like eggplant.

Fairytale:   65 days .Purple-and-white mini eggplant..  Attractive, 2–4″ long by 3/4–1 1/4″ diameter, fruits are borne abundantly on compact 18-24″ plants. Wonderful flavor with no bitterness and very few seeds. Some fruits may be harvested in clusters. Green calyx. AAS winner.

Kermit:  60 days. Small 2 inch round bi colored green and white variety. Very firm flesh, no bitterness. Especially delicious in curry, absorbs sauces well. So pretty!

Listada de Gandia:  80 days.  8 inch oval fruit are deep lavender streaked in white.  Thin skinned, with white flesh.  Yummy, with a very mild flavor, and great for people who aren’t fond of the flavor or texture of eggplant.

Millionaire: 61 days. Long, slender deep purple, almost black, eggplant are of Asian origin, and have a wonderful, mild flavor, perfect for Oriental dishes or simply splitting and grilling or roasting. Plants are very productive and feature foliage with a purple tinge as well as fruit with a purple calyx.

Pingtung Long: 65 days. Named after its town of origin in Taiwan, this slender violet purple eggplant becomes at least 12 inches long and has an excellent, mild flavor and tender white flesh. It thrives and produces continuous , large harvest despite summer heat and humidity.

Rosa Bianca: 75 days. Prized by chefs and gardeners alike for its creamy, mild flesh and lovely appearance, this Italian heirloom has become very popular. Well filled, round to teardrop shaped fruit is white with soft lavender streaks outside, and inside flesh white and sweet with no trace of bitterness.

Thai Long Green:  70 days.  From Thailand.  Long slender 12″ fruit have tender light green skin that does not require peeling.  White fleshed, absorbs flavor well.

SQUASH

Bennings Green Tint:  60 days.  Light green patty pan, excellent for grilling and sautéing.  Harvest young.  An excellent choice for squash blossoms.

Cocozelle:  45 days.  Compact bush style, heirloom Italian variety.  12 inches, long dark green with light green stripes, flesh is light green, very firm and nutty flavor.  Excellent in containers.

Eight Ball: 52 days.  4 inch French round zucchini.  Compact bush perfect for the patio.  Deep green, extra tender, great to steam, saute or stuff.

Gold Star Yellow crookneck:  50 days. Buttery flavor, firm texture. Excellent yields and improved disease resistance.  Reduced spines are easier for picking, fewer blemishes.

Raven: 48 days. Spineless plants with an excellent disease resistance package. Fruits are shiny dark green. Plants are open and easy to harvest and have resistance to zucchini yellow mosaic virus and cucumber mosaic virus.

Slick-Pik:  48 days.  Long straight yellow fruit with clean, nutty flavor.  Spineless, easy to harvest and fruit are unblemished.

Sunburst: 52 days. Good yielder of yellow patty pan with a dark green blossom end, pick small for best flavor.

Zephyr: 54 days. Straight zucchini. Yellow with green tip. Harvest young, delicious nutty flavor.  An excellent choice for squash blossoms.

CUCUMBERS

Diva:  58 days.  Produces distinctly tender, crisp, sweet, bitter free and seedless cuke.  Referred to as ‘Persian’ cucumbers.  Harvest at 5-7 inches, skins can be eaten.  One of our most popular cukes!

Lemon: 65 days. Small, rounded pale yellow cucumbers. Pick when 1 ½ – 2 inches big. Specialty market salad item.

Mexican Gherkin:  60 days.  1 to 2 inch fruit that looks like little watermelons.  They are surprisingly sweet, with a little kick of tart at the end.  Very unusual heirloom.

Northern Pickling (Alibi): 48 days.  A high yielding, early, old favorite.  Produces on short vines, great for pot production.  Harvest at 3-5 inches, fertilize well to keep production high.

Olympian: 52 days. Productive slicer. High yields of beautiful dark green straight, 8-9 inch fruit over a long harvest season. Crisp, with fresh flavor. Resistant to major cucumber diseases.

Salt and Pepper:  49 days.  White skinned pickling cucumber with powdery mildew resistance.  Yummy, very crunchy and sweet and clean flavor, excellent fresh!  

Spacemaster 80 Bush:  60 days.  Uniform 8 inch, dark green, smooth, slender, compact runnerless 3 ft vine, useful in patio containers.

Striped Armenian (Serpent): 63 days. Unusual, slightly fuzzy, “S”-shaped fruits are slightly ridged with alternating dark and light green stripes. Harvest from 8-18″. Delicious and different.

Suyo Long: 61 days. Traditional long fruited variety from China. A sweet flavored, ribbed fruit growing up to 15 inches long. Widely adapted, grows well in hot weather, and sets early. Many retail customers and chefs like this unusual looking cucumber for salads and for bread and butter and mixed vegetable pickles. Excellent “burpless” eating quality. Bitter-free. Trellis for straight fruits.

Tendergreen Burpless: 55 days. English type cucumber, burpless, 7 inches long. High yielding, non bitter with tender skin. No peeling needed. Mildew resistant. 

MELONS

Allsweet Watermelon:  90 days.  Super sweet heirloom.  Green rind, deep red flesh, very few seeds, big juicy 25 lb fruit!

Blacktail Mountain Watermelon: 73 days. Small fruited, 9 inches, fast maturing, deep green rind with bright red flesh.  Weighs 6-10 lbs. Juicy, sweet and crunchy.  Very productive, even in heat. Heirloom.

Charantais:  90 days.  French gourmet style cantaloupe.  2 lb, smooth pale green striped, maturing to a vanilla colored rind.  Juicy salmon flesh is very tasty, sweet and fragrant.  Perfect cut in half with a scoop of cottage cheese, or better yet, vanilla ice cream!!!

Early Delicious Cantaloupe: 72 days. 4 lb fruit, no ribs, thick, juicy sweet orange flesh. Pick when skin starts to turn buff.

Honeymoon Honeydew: 74 days. Early and delicious. Sweet flavor, medium sized smooth white melons with almost white flesh.

Moon and Stars Watermelon:  89 days.  Dark green oval heirloom, sweet pink-red flesh, bright yellow spots on rind, 7-8 inches diameter, 10-15 lbs.

Sugar Baby Watermelon: 76 days. The standard of small watermelons, 8-10 lbs. Ripe melons are almost black. Excellent flavor, the standard for “icebox” style.

PUMPKINS AND WINTER SQUASH

Acorn (Taybelle) Winter Squash:  80 days.  A classic acorn variety with high yields.  Bush habit allows for denser plantings.  Good resistance to powdery mildew.  6-8 fruits/plant, averaging 2-3 lb.

Butternut, Waltham:  105 days.  The standard for butternut squash.  Larger fruits with small seed cavities and thick, straight, cylindrical necks.  Fruits average 9 inches long, 4-5 lbs.  Flesh has a smooth texture and sweet flavor, especially after 2 months of storage.

Delicata Winter Squash:  100 days.  A unique strain grown by Johnny’s Seeds.  7-9 inches long, 3 inches wide, 1 1/2 to 2 lbs, cream colored fruit with dark green longitudinal stripes and flecks.  Very sweet, excellent for stuffing an baking, even at full maturity.  

Pumpkin, Wee Be Little: 105 days. Tiny, flattened pumpkin. Charming little, flattened, ribbed, orange pumpkins average 1 1/2 lbs, with nice thick stems. Average 8 fruits/plant.  Sweet flesh for cooking.

Pumpkin, Howden: 115 days. Standard large pumpkin, developed in the 1970’s. Deep orange color, defined ribs, and good handles. Fruits range from mid 20 lbs to larger. Average yield, 1-2 fruits/plant.

Pumpkin, Musque de Provence:  125 days.  Heirloom Southern French variety.  8-15 lb.  Big, deep orange fruit is moderately sweet fleshed, excellent for cooking.  2 fruits/plant.

Spaghetti Squash:  88 days.  The classic pasta alternative.  Great noodle like consistency.  Ivory skin, changing to pale yellow at maturity.  Bake or boil and fork out the flesh.  4-5 fruits/plant.
