Peppermint is the classic tea plant, with fast growing, deep green leaves and a cooling flavor. Peppermint has been used for digestive problems and pain relief, and is typically used for desserts, especially chocolate. It is a sterile plant, so it will not spread seed, but it is a vigorous and aggressive grower and will quickly invade the rest of your garden by underground rhizomes. It is possible that peppermint is one of the oldest medicinal herbs grown, with some indication that it has been used for more than 5,000 years.
Keep planted in a container away from the garden to prevent it from getting loose! Prune plants back frequently to maintain flavor, fertilize lightly at least once a month in containers, and plant in some afternoon shade.
