'Fred Boutin' is a lavandin introduced in the 1980's from Huntington Garden in San Marino, California. It is a large plant, to 3 feet, with a bushy habit and dense grey foliage. The flower stems are a foot or more, with dense slender flower spikes of dark violet blue flowers and green/violet calyces. It dries well for crafting.
This specimen makes a dense medium height hedge. It flowers late in the summer and into the fall. It is equally beautiful in the winter, when the silvery foliage stands out.
