Perhaps one of the cutest plants we grow, with long blooming sprays of purple and red flowers that really do look like happy little bat faces. Great for containers where the plant will hang over, and adds plenty of color to shady gardens. A must for the children's garden. It grows to 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide, and in hot areas needs a bit of afternoon shade.
Needs protection from heavy frost. Although it is rated at Sunset zone 11, in always overwinters beautifully in our Zone 9 garden. Treat it as an annual in many parts of the country, although it is more forgiving to come inside at the end of a season and survive as a houseplant. It fills in and starts blooming quickly, and will bloom continuously until mid fall.
