This is a giant butterfly bush, up to 12 feet tall and 12 feet wide, with an arching, weeping habit. In early spring it is covered with profuse clusters of fragrant lilac colored flowers that you can smell 100 feet away. It is a terrific early spring butterfly and hummingbird plant. Drought tolerant. Prune AFTER spring bloom, not before!! It will usually bloom again in late summer.
Fountain butterfly bush tolerates many kinds of soils, even heavier clay soils. It prefers full sun, but can tolerate a bit of shade. Prune so that it is a small single or multi-stemmed tree.
