A cross between S. clevelandii and S. leucophylla, this California native specimen has the best of both! Extremely pungent scented dusky green foliage makes for a lovely evergreen shrub, and in the spring for 6 weeks the plant is covered with long spikes of vibrant violet whorls of fluffy blooms that attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds early in the season. This plant produces seed that are great forage for quail and small birds. The plant needs adequate water during the winter and spring - 15 to 20 inches - but during the summer can be maintained very dry. a light pruning late in the season will help maintain the plant much longer.
