Yarrow Cheese Ball

Cheese balls are easy to make and a classic appetizer.  They can be made in a variety of shapes and even sizes from large rounds to share to mini ones that can be served individually.

Here is a basic recipe feel free to add extra herbs and edible flowers you may have growing in your garden.  It is important to use small fresh yarrow leaves these have the best flavor and will not overwhelm your dish.

Yield: 8 ounces

  • 8 ounces cream cheese or soft cheese
  • 1 teaspoon young yarrow leaves
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon green onion, chopped
  • 1 /2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  • 1 Tablespoon chopped walnuts

Fresh herbs for garnish : yarrow leaves, parsley, tarragon

In a small bowl mix together all the ingredients.  Form into a ball and place on parchment paper on a dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.  You can cover and store overnight.  Before serving roll in a mixture of fresh chopped herbs. Serve with crackers or fresh sliced apples or pears.
