Greetings from Morningsun Herb Farm - December 2022
Finally, cold weather has arrived! I find myself changing directions as I walk through the nursery so I can hear the sound of dry leaves under my feet and feel the walnut leaves falling around me. The jackets have come out of the closet, the heavy socks are on, my favorite scarf wrapped around me. The donkeys are getting all fluffy with their winter coats. Seeds have been ordered, many planted, lots of new babies are already tucked into the greenhouses rooting in for next year.
December is a short month for us at Morningsun, as our last day open for the year will be Friday, December 23rd . It’s been another busy and exciting year for us, with a return to our Open House in the spring, our Lavender Festival with Soul Food Farm in the summer, a much expanded mail order business and many more events and farmers markets. We are already filling in our calendars for 2023, planning our vegetable planting schedule for tomatoes (can you believe it?) and looking ahead to new plant introductions. Of course, I see plenty of leaky pipes, broken bender board, ripped weed barrier, plants that need pruning/ removing/ replanting and an entire new garden that needs to be built this winter, so we will be busy during the quiet time!
December 3rd will be our last big event of the year, as we will be co hosting the Christmas Faire with Soul Food Farm from 9 am – 3 pm at 6046 Pleasants Valley Rd. There will be plenty of local vendors set up with all kinds of beautiful items for sale. This is your opportunity to see the donkeys all dressed up like Christmas elves. They are really good sports about dressing up, perhaps because it’s the one day they get showered with carrots and other treats, and plenty of attention.
There will be music and food, and it will be a beautiful day out in the country.
We want to thank all of our customers for so much support this year. We continue to see so many new gardeners and new customers this year, it’s a wonderful trend to see all ages and lots of families coming out to garden. We hope to see you all out in garden in 2023.
Happy Holidays,
Rose Loveall-Sale and Dan Sale & Morningsun Herb Farm Staff
