Evergreen shrub, very large growing, to 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Big square stems are covered in a white very tomentose fuzz, large triangular shaped leaves are also covered with thick white hair. Leaves are nicely fragrant. Large spikes of purple and white flowers that are unusually exotic and eye-catching bloom from mid summer on. Great fresh cut flower, and an unusual dried flower for large arrangements.
Although S. canariensis can be very drought tolerant, and is best maintained as a smaller plant by regulating water, blooms and foliage will be lusher and fuller with regular deep watering.
In temperatures lower than 15 degrees F, this sage may die back to the ground.
