This oregano is native to the island of Crete. It is very drought tolerant, needing good drainage and full sun to thrive. The leaves are round, very tomentose and aromatic, and low growing to 8 inches tall. Branches stretch out to 2 feet, so it makes a great addition to a container or hanging basket.  The flowers are described as 'hop-like', with chartreuse papery bracts tinged with rose, and small rose pink flowers shyly poking out. Flowering is from June through October. This flower lasts forever, and if you dry the flowers they will maintain their color.

Prune back hard in early spring, and cut spent flowers to extend the flowering.

Some people use this oregano for flavoring, however it is inferior to Italian and Greek oregano.
