Flower water, also known as hydrosol, is a by-product of the distillation process, where steam is forced through plant material to release the fragrant oil. As the steam cools it can be separated into essential oil and the water component. The flower water is more lightly scented than the essential oil, but has the same healing properties as essential oil.
Anti-septic and anti-bacterial, lavender flower water is perfect to use to clean cuts, abrasions and burns. Whether you use it to cool the skin after working in the garden all day or to heal dry chapped skin after a day of skiing, this is a great way to naturally heal. Lavender flower water is great for healing wounds on dogs also, or to spray down their beds to naturally deodorize and give them a sense of relaxation. A spritz of flower water on the face before bed is both relaxing and cleansing for the skin. And if you get the urge to iron, adding lavender flower water to your steamer will give your clothes a wonderful scent!
