Native to Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. It is drought tolerant, excellent for hummingbirds. Scarlet flowers at tips of branches, the flowers definitely look like big kissy mouths (Boca rosa means pink mouth). Blooms heaviest in spring, sporadically throughout summer and fall. It can grow very wide, up to 6 feet, but usually no more than 3 feet high. We find if it is protected under a tree or covering it will overwinter outdoors in our Sunset Zone 9 garden.

Prefers well drained soil, but once established is fairly drought tolerant. Full sun is fine if the heat is not too intense, otherwise plant in afternoon shade.
