Compact dark green foliage, with reddish new growth on a 2 foot tall upright bush. A lovely evergreen, so it looks beautiful in the winter garden, expecially as the new growth emerges. In late winter and early spring sprays of chartreuse flower bracts with glowing red pistils adorn the plant.
In hot areas afternoon shade is a must - in central California we grow it in almost full shade. Prefers average garden water. This plant produces a milky sap which can be irritating to the skin. When pruning this plant be sure to wear gloves!
