A great CA native to stabilize banks and cover large expanses.

'Yankee Point' is a very large groundcover, native to the California coastal valleys. Leaves are a dark shiny green, with short spikes of deep blue purple blooms in the spring. It grows 1 and 1/2 to 2 feet tall, and can grow as wide as 10 feet. It is a terrific plant on banks and to cover large areas. In cooler climates it can easily be grown in full sun and with no supplemental water in the summer, but inland it would prefer a bit of dappled or partial shade in the hottest part of the day. Supplemental watering, once or twice a month, is fine if growing under the hottest conditions. It doesn't want to be hacked, and will not survive a massive pruning, but is fine with light shearing. Hardy to 18 degrees F. A good plant for honeybees in the late winter and early spring.
