This is a fast growing groundcover from Switzerland, spreading several feet in one year, hence the common name, 'Turbo Thyme'. It is a great thyme selection, with big green leaves, red stems and soft pink flowers in the spring. It overwinters outside at our nursery beautifully. It can take foot traffic and stays low enough, 2-4 inches tall, to work well between flagstone or on steps. Turbo thyme is also heat tolerant, so it makes a great choice for full sun creeping around bricks or flagstone. It quickly re-roots itself, so it is easy to dig up pieces and move around. This thyme would be a great groundcover around perennials or roses that need to be tended to often, as it seems to tolerate more foot traffic than most thymes.
Use in mixed containers to add some texture, or add into hanging baskets - it will easily hang down a foot or more.
This thyme is not a culinary or medicinal selection, but has a nice fragrance when crushed underfoot.
