Berggarten' (German for Mountain Garden) is considered by many professional chefs to be the finest culinary, with a clean flavor and no bitterness. Large round gray leaves on a low mounding plant, growing to 18 inches tall are very attractive. It never flowers. If given a site with excellent drainage and full sun this selection is very long lived, 10 years or more! Prune back early in spring and pinch regularly thoughout the growing season. This is a great choice for Sage Pesto, or for flash-frying the leaves to put on top of fresh pasta. A nice choice for a large container.
