A big rambling plant that is spectacular in the garden if given sufficient space. It can grow to 4 feet tall and 8 feet wide if conditions are right. Native to southern Mexico and northern Guatemala, it performs best in n higher humidity. My garden in California is very dry, so it usually only grows 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The plant is quite lovely, with dark green leaves and cardinal red flowers throughout the year, heaviest in fall and winter, if winters are mild.

This sage has very lax stems that will hang over beds and baskets beautifully, but will also re-root itself and form a lovely tall groundcover. If planted up against an open fence it will grow up and cover up to 5 feet tall. Plant in afternoon shade for prettiest growth.
