Also called wood strawberry or fraise du bois. This is a great plant to grow as an edging plant in flower or herb gardens. It doesn't produce runners, but grows as a lovely fluffy patch, with each plant covering about 12 inches of space. It will grow in full sun in cooler areas, but a bit of afternoon shade keeps it looking much nicer in hot summer locations.

If you give alpine strawberry ample water, it will reward you with lots of very small red berries. They are very tiny, but extremely fragrant and sweet, just packed with sugar! Plant them around a children's play area for some instant gratification for them, as they are actually quite productive once they are established. Leaves have historically been used to make teas high in Vitamin C.
