Blessing the Soil for Planting
We are busy with some last minute planting in the garden today as we prepare for our book signing event on Saturday with author Debra Prinzing. It couldn’t have been more perfect to have a cooler week, partly overcast and some actual rainfall, to freshen up the existing gardens and giving us the opportunity to quickly tuck in a few plants into the garden and into some pots.
Everyone has a bit more energy this week, so working in the garden is once again a pleasure. It’s going to be a lovely weekend to wander through the gardens, although you do have to keep on your toes with all of the fast flying hummingbirds racing around, acting like they own all the flowers.
Come out Saturday morning and meet Slow Flower founder, author and award winning podcaster Debra Prinzing from 10 am to 12 pm. We will have additional parking at our neighbors just to the south (as needed). Easy walking back to the nursery without walking on the street. Parking attendants will be out at the main entrances of our nursery to guide everyone in.

This Week’s Project
The moment it begins to cool, we can begin to prepare for next year. Yes, that’s right, we can’t just enjoy the pretty gardens now, our brains are already into next spring. So it’s time for cuttings, cuttings, cuttings.
One of the reasons we have our gardens is to be able to take cuttings from these ‘stock’ plants. So every lavender, Salvia, thyme, rosemary, etc that we can take cuttings of in the fall (and legally - some, after all, are patented, more on those in the weeks to come). So it is time. Each table holds 34 trays, each tray hold 98 new little cuttings. Or 128 when we start to get antsy. Or 200 when we start seeding basils. When it’s full (by Thanksgiving) 10 tables will be full of cuttings or seedlings. And it will stay full until next June.
Stay busy, but enjoy your gardens and all those creatures that are so busy out in your gardens preparing for winter right now.
