Herbaceous. 3-5 ft. Sun to Part Shade.
Large, light green leaves with tall spikes of deep violet flowers set in bright green calyces. Typically Mexican sage grows to 4 feet, but in the perfect location of rich well drained soil, deep watering and afternoon shade it may grow up to 8 feet tall.
Mexican sage has brittle branches, so be sure to plant where it has some protection from wind. The long flowering branches are excellent for cut flowers - even when the flower petals fall, the lime green calyces are lovely!
