Shiso is a warm weather annual. It quickly grows to 3 feet tall, with large 5 inch serrated heart shaped leaves. It is beauitful in the summer herb garden. It is also called 'Japanese Basil' because it is used extensively in Japanese cooking. It is steamed, wrapped around fish and beef and steamed or barbequed, stir fried and dipped in tempura batter. There are 2 leaf color variations, depending on what you are cooking will determine whether to use red or green.
Plant in full sun or afternoon shade, and pinch frequently to maintain bushy plants and prevent seeding.
