This is a very decorative plant, excellent for afternoon shady conditions in the hottest inland areas, while around the Bay Area full day sun is fine. Sun generally makes the ferny foliage a green color, while a bit more shading will maintain the dark purple hue. In the spring the electric lavender-blue flowers are quite striking.
This plant is nice for a mixed container planting. Mix with bright green or reddish Heuchera such as 'Creme Brulee' or 'Key Lime Pie'. Very long lived and easy to divide the crown after 2 to 3 years.
A Blooms of Bressingham selection, USPP#15367.
