A vigorous grower with a trailing habit and dark red/purple lobed leaves shaped like a bird's foot print. Very heat tolerant, quickly fills in a short trellis. Flowers are generally absent. It is also beautiful in hanging baskets - it has a much more delicate looking leaf than many of the other ornamental sweet potatoes.
Ornamental sweet potatos are grown from tubers, and in Zones 10 and 11 would be considered perennial. In other zones they are annual, although the tubers can be dug up before the first frost and stored. Even as an annual, they are fun to grow because they are so fast and have such stunning color. In cooler climates sweet potatoes can be grown in full sun, but in hot dry locations they prefer some protection from afternoon sun.
